Assessments
What is a psychoeducational assessment
Jennifer provides comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children, teens and adults. These assessments can identify learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, developmental disorders, as well as the full-range of emotional and behavioural disorders.
What is a psychoeducational assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment is usually conducted when a child is having difficulty at school academically or behaviourally. It uses standardized measures of reasoning, learning and memory, attention, academic skills, and emotional and behavioural functioning in order to understand the child’s difficulties and to help inform strategies to help the child at home and at school.
The total time required to complete an assessment varies from person to person and depends greatly upon the nature, history and complexity of the concerns. In many instances, either all or part of the fee will be reimbursed through your extended health care plan if you are covered by insurance.
We begin with an initial 1-hour appointment to talk about your concerns, the questions you would like the assessment to answer. If you decide to not to proceed with assessment, this appointment is billed at an hourly rate. If you decide to proceed with assessment, we will then book appointments for testing. Generally it is booked in 2-3 hour blocks on separate days, for earlier in the day when the child is less fatigued. Teens may be able to complete all testing in a single day.
Testing will involve face-to-face measures with the child as well as questionnaires for parents and teachers. Once all testing is complete and questionnaires returned, I write a report that includes any diagnoses and recommendations that apply. About 3-4 weeks after all testing is complete and questionnaires returned, you will return for a feedback session to discuss the results and recommendations.
